Shining Spirit: Brooke Alexander

>Last evening I attended the KU Graphic Design + Illustration Senior Show. It was a wonderful event with many amazingly talented artists, illustrators and designers. One collection that particularly stood out was that of Brooke Alexander. Brooke is currently undertaking a small project in hopes to make a big difference. Her installation is titled Me me ME : Changing the World by Changing Me.” As she described it, the project was a result of the ache in her heart for the overwhelming number of conflicts in our world. With Me me ME, Brooke hopes to encourage change in small ways that result in positive impact on a larger scale.

With a concentration in illustration and type design, Brooke has created a beautiful collection of 14 posters that promote and foster positive change. Her words and ideas are so easy to follow yet each day people all over the world rush through their activities so quickly, as if it were a race to the finish line. Somewhere along the race of time we forget to slow down and relish the simple pleasures that truly foster a fulfilling life. Hopefully you are able to take her elementary words and truly make use of them throughout your day. Not only does each word represent an action, it also expands on the idea that each small change now can make a big difference in your life during unexpected times later:

Exercise #4: Wait in the longest checkout line. Testing your own patience allows us to be prepared for uncontrolled circumstances where we might need a lot of it. Free yourself from the chains of time and take the long way.

Starting today, I will add each element with full awareness and participation. It is wonderful knowing that the simple changes I pass on will create everlasting results of happiness!

Most importantly, make sure to send a note of gratitude to Brooke for making these wonderful posters of positive change. You can view the rest of her design portfolio here. You can also contact her at brookealexanderdesign@gmail.com.
